In our mission to combat Climate Change, GAAF aims to take practical steps with GAAF Mission 2030 in school communities across Nigeria. This Mission launched on Earth Day 22 April 2023. Trees are a vital resource for rural poor communities in Africa. They provide shade and shelter, help to prevent soil erosion, restore degraded land, and can be a valuable source of food and nutrition tackling poverty and improving the lives of local communities however deforestation has a detrimental impact on our climate.
Tree planting is one of the most effective ways to mitigate the effects of climate change. A single mature tree can remove upwards of 25kgs of harmful greenhouse gases out of the atmosphere. Carbon sequestration might not be the main reason why African families plant on their small farms, trees offer a ‘win-win’ for African communities – as rural poor families, while least responsible, are amongst the most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. GAAF Climate Action involves planting a tree in every school we visit. Commencing 2024, GAAF will provide Recycle Bins for plastics (e.g. plastic bottles, water sachets, biscuits wrappers) & papers in school communities.

In this second year of GAAF Climate Change Mission 2030, GAAF embarks on a roadshow across 3 States in Federal Republic of Nigeria. School communities in Oyo, Osun & Ondo States would be visited to sensitize the children on Climate Change. At every school visited, GAAF will be planting a tree and installing a recycling bin.
GAAF Climate Change Mission 2030 is always seeking for partnership opportunities. If you are passionate about climate change and environmental issues, we can join forces to mobilize a network of climate change Agents to raise awareness in these areas.
